PGA TOUR winner Grayson Murray is pronounced dead at the age of 30.
Grayson Murray, who won his second PGA TOUR title at this year’s Sony Open in Hawaii, passed away on Saturday.

“We were shocked to hear that – and we are devastated to report we learned that PGA TOUR participant Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I’m struggling to put into the words to describe what happened,” PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan said. “The PGA TOUR is a family so when it is lost the family member you love and you’re not the same. We grieve Grayson and ask for peace for his family members.
“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play,” Commissioner Monahan continued. “They were insistent that Grayson would prefer us to continue with the tournament. However difficult it may be, we’d like to honor their desires.”
Grief counselors were available at the venues of the upcoming PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour events. Commissioner Monahan was on the road between TOUR Headquarters in Florida from the TOUR headquarters in Florida to Fort Worth, Texas, told reporters that more information will be released once it becomes available.
Murray 30, who was a top golfer of his early days. He was the winner of 3 consecutive Callaway Junior World Championships (2006-08) and was the highest-ranked golfer in his age category. His first round on the Korn Ferry Tour at age 16 and became the second-youngest golfer ever to make it. After brief stints in Wake Forest University, East Carolina University and Arizona State University, he received the break he was looking for in the year 2016 when he was granted a sponsor exemption to the Korn Ferry Tour event near his home town in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was in the top 10 in the event, at the Rex Hospital Open, which allowed him to compete again. After he racked up another top 10 in the BMW Charity Pro-Am, his professional career began to take off. The season ended with a win at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship to be in second place in the Korn Ferry Tour’s list of earnings and be able to join the PGA TOUR for the 2016-17 season. The victory came just just a week before the 23rd day of his birthday.
Murray was quick to establish his place on the biggest stage in golf when he was an amateur. He was the winner of his first title in the Barbasol Championship while still just 23 years old. His final round 68 not only resulted in a one-shot win as well as secured him an exemption of two years through in the next PGA TOUR season. He placed 66th at the FedExCup and made almost $1.5 million.
Grayson was a struggle for the next couple of years on Grayson’s PGA TOUR. In 2023 He found his form once more on the Korn Ferry Tour; he scored two wins including for the Advent Health Championship in Kansas City and the Simmons Bank Open outside of Nashville and finished fourth on the points list and earn himself a return to the PGA TOUR for the following season.
Murray started the 2024 season by winning a victory in a playoff in the Sony Open in Hawaii. He swung a putt between the 72nd hole to secure an eagle to cause an extra round. He then sank the 40-foot birdie on the hole that was first added to take out Byeong Hun An and Keegan Bradley. He climbed to his highest ranking of 46th at the Official World Golf Ranking after his victory.
