Rangers overcome, beat Panthers in OT in Game 3 of the Eastern Final

SUNRISE Fla. —Alex Wennberg scored at 5:35 in overtime to the New York Rangers, who came back to win 5-4 in the match against Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final at Amerant Bank Arena on Sunday.
Wennberg took the win after Ryan Lindgren‘s shot from the left side was smashed into the stick’s shaft to the front. It was the first goal he scored in the postseason’s 13 games and his only goal in his 32 games for the Rangers following his acquisition through a trade deal with Seattle Kraken on March 6. “It’s amazing,” Wennberg declared. “It was an intense game, went back-and-forth. You see the puck go to the net and there is a burst of energy, a burst of feelings. It is great, obviously.”
The Rangers have also won 2 to 1 in overtime in Game 2. on Friday have won the best-of-7 series by 2-1. Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday.
Alexis Lafreniere and Barclay Goodrow each scored two goals, while Lindgren, Jacob Trouba and Vincent Trocheck each contributed the benefit of two assists to New York who are the number. 1 seed in the Metropolitan Division. Igor Shesterkin made 33 saves.
“We needed to go back to work, get back on the attack and on the forecheck,” Rangers coach Peter Laviolette said of his message to his team following the loss of a two-goal lead during the 3rd period. “We were a bit of pressure in the third period. … The main message was to return to work and feel comfortable with what was happening.”

Sam Reinhart scored twice, Aleksander Barkov scored a goal and an assist, Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe each scored the two assist for Florida that is the number. 1 seed in the Atlantic Division. Sergei Bobrovsky made 18 saves.
“Sometimes you want to keep the growl,” Panthers coach Paul Maurice said. “A majority of the time in the playoffs it’s about keeping the energy flowing. Reduce losses and let it go. There are times when you desire to keep it to eat it, and let you let it cook for while, and then look for a different type fuel source.”
Reinhart provided the Panthers the lead for the first time with a power-play strike at 2:50 of the 1st period. Reinhart cut in to the net on the goal line, then lifted an upper-body shot under Shesterkin’s right arm.
Lafreniere tied the score 1-1 at 7:17. He threw the glove of Bobrovsky with a backhand in a breakaway, partially the defender had escaped a dive check made by Vladimir Tarasenko.
Goodrow scored 25 seconds after the goal after a reversal of Braden Schneider‘s shot from the right side for the Rangers an advantage of 2-1.
Reinhart came back with his second power-play score in the period to make it at 2-2 at 14:46. The backdoor pass he made for Barkov bounced off five holes on Trouba’s skate. Trouba.
“We need to move on, refocus and recover,” Reinhart stated.
Lafreniere made it easy for the Rangers back ahead with a 3-2 lead at 15:23 in the 2nd period. Lafreniere skated across the neutral zone into the top left circle, before the ball was dragged by Dmitry Kulikov and scoring a backhand the front, only to be dragged into the surface from Olaf Ekman-Larsson.
Goodrow added a 4-2 score at 18:14, scoring a quick-handed goal using a one-timer in the left corner of the field following an assist from Trocheck.
This was the fifth New York goal in the postseason that was scored with a short hand. The only other team in the league has more than two goals.
“Each game brings its own storyline,” said Goodrow whom scored overtime’s winner during Game 2. “We did a good job of managing things and winning it in OT.”
Barkov helped the Panthers to just 4-3 in 5:04 of the third quarter when Verhaeghe’s centering pass was deflected from him near the edge of the goal line.
Gustav Forsling tied the score 4-all at 6:58. Evan Rodrigues won the face-off to Tkachuk who sped off to the cutting Forsling for a shot with his wrist from the left side of the circle.
Florida defeated New York 18-8 in the third and overtime, but could not score that extra goal.
“The third was probably the toughest period of the series so far,” Laviolette stated. “We were leading 4-2 and under attack. They took advantage. It was their most successful period. … It was moving towards them.”
NOTES It is reported that the Rangers are 4-1 in overtime this postseason. The Panthers are 1-2. … New York scored its 34th comeback victory in the current campaign (regular game and postseason) this season, which is the highest number of its kind in NHL history.
