Inclement Weather Service Updates May 28, 2024 – Dallas City News

The City of Dallas is monitoring the impact of weather conditions and will update this website informing residents about City Service modifications for May 28, 2024.

In an emergency, dial 911 when you need help from firefighters, police, or EMS.

A medical emergency can be defined as or fire, a serious car accident that results in injuries, a crime that is in progress or life-threatening incident.

If not, dial 311 or make an online form for non-urgent situations.

Residents are advised to stay aware the high-water conditions

The torrential rains could create high-water conditions in the City. It is recommended that the public remain awareuse caution and be aware of all warning signs when crossing streets or streams or bodies of water. Turn Around. Don’t Drown.

Follow these safety guidelines. They can save your life.

  • Pay attention to all warning signs
  • Keep an eye out for rising water levels
  • Find out where the highest ground is, and be sure to get there swiftly if you hear or see rising water
  • Don’t attempt to walk between standing or flowing water if you do not know the depth of the water.
  • Avoid driving through flood-prone areas. the majority of flood-related deaths happen in cars
  • If your vehicle stops immediately, stop it and find higher ground as soon as possible.
  • Be extra cautious at night.
  • Take the advice of emergency management officials in your area prior to attempting to cross area rivers or lakes.

The public is urged to adhere to the National Weather Service recommendation, “Turn around. Don’t Float.” And be mindful of risks of walking or driving into areas of flooding.

Oncor Updates

We are in the process of assessing and resolving problems caused by thunderstorms causing massive hail and wind gusts upwards of 80 mph within DFW and its surrounding regions. Storm watches and warnings for severe storms remain in place for certain areas of our service region. Thank you for your understanding while we move as swiftly and safely as we can to restore power.

Security for our teams as well as the general public is Oncor’s top priority. If you notice a damaged electricity line, remain from the area, keep your pets and children away and immediately call 911.

Sanitation

Recycling and garbage collections will be delayed by one day to all of our customers from today on May 28. So the Tuesday route will get picked up on Wednesday and Thursday routes on Wednesday the Thursday route on Friday and Friday routes on a Saturday.

Early set-out enforcement has been halted as well as all residents will be granted a 20-cubic yard exemption over the course of 15 days. Anything that is over the 20-cubic yard limit could be subject to an administrative charge.

  • Sanitation Services advises residents to remove storm debris from the vegetation towards the curb.
  • Early setting-out enforcers have been suspended however, the other rules are in place, such as the 10-cubic-yard limit or 20 cubic yard annual exemption.
  • They request that the waste of vegetation can be separated from any other materials like construction materials.
  • The collection is delayed by a day due to dangerous roadway and the condition of the alleyway.
  • Sanitation is sending these notifications via social media, service alerts as well as on the Sanitation Services website.

Public Works
Public Works has crews spread across the city, responding on 311 requests. The workers are cutting massive trees and transferring trees to curbs to be disposed of by sanitation Brush Buster staff to take down. The crew will work all hours of the day this week to remove the down trees as fast as they can.

Dallas Libraries

11 Dallas libraries are without electricity, but temperatures can vary between 72 and 76 degrees. Be aware that White Rock Hills power comes and goes. Currently, it’s off. The rest of the locations have cooling capacity that is fully utilized and will be operating their regular hours. Hours: Dallas Public Library Timetable (dallaslibrary2.org) Most of our libraries without power will are closed (normal times) around 5pm. Three of them are scheduled to open until 8pm, but with none of the power (Bachman Lake, Renner Frankford and White Rock Lake) will be closed at 6:15pm.
