Google News goes down for millions of users around the world in a mysterious glitch — the latest news
Google News is currently experiencing an unconfirmed downtime that’s taken the service off for millions of users across the globe.
According to the information as reported in a report by the DownDetector (and as per Tom’s Guide’s personal report) the news aggregater is experiencing a problem on its desktop site and also it’s iOS and Android applications. Although some users have reported it’s because Search may also be affected. I’ve not been able replicate the issue myself.
Reports began to surface around 7.59am ET / 12.59pm BST today the 31st of May, the website being affected and Google has not yet made an official announcement regarding the reason for the issue.
Users from all over in the United States — from to Ohio and Florida — are experiencing issues, as do Tom’s Guide team members across the U.K. from London (where I’m located) to Manchester and Manchester. Other regions such as India, Canada and continental Europe are also experiencing problems.
It seems the Google Discover is also suffering and is merely returning cached content from the past. We don’t know how this issue can be fixed, but due to the repercussions the Google News Service, this issue could affect hundreds of thousands of people currently.
Of course, a lot of people are using X to confirm that the service actually is down, and there are some jokes added to make it more entertaining.
