Call of Duty Black Ops 6’s brand new “Omnimovement,” could be CoD’s most innovative (or worst) idea ever

Out of all the details about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 that were revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase the most eye-catching feature that was featured the most “Omnimovement,” a redesigned movement system that allows players to run or dive into any direction for the first time.

It’s a weird idea, running around corners while facing in the opposite direction might appear silly, but Treyarch is sure it’s going to be great for BO6’s motion. Treyarch claims Omnimovement breaks down “long-established FPS constructs,” which allows players to play “much more realistically” than before Calls of Duty.

“We truly believe that once you experience Omnimovement, there’s no going back,” Treyarch told the press.

The direction in which you’re planning to run in is as normal as breathing for seasoned CoD players. I’ve never dreamed of being able to be adamantly avoid a lane, but maybe playing for fun is believing in this instance. I’m already a believer in Call of Duty one of the most empathetic shooters available So I’m not sure what percentage of camera-agnostic sprinting can make a difference.

There’s also a piece of me concerned that Omnimovement could push CoD further into an direction that I’m not a fan of. Modern Warfare 3’s gameplay was also advertised as a step above its predecessor through encouraging bunnyhopping and slide cancelling, however, those changes proved as my least favorite aspect that the player can play. These the same corner hoppers rushing around already have their eyes trained on my head prior to the time they reach the corner. It’s enough to cause your skin to crawl.

However, the Black Ops 6 movement system isn’t only about sprinting. It also lets you dive into any direction, which I’m sure to enjoy just as much as I did when I play Helldivers 2. There’s also “intelligent movement,” which will automatize certain movements such as mantling, sprinting, and sliding through crouch-height gaps. Treyarch claims the goal is to reduce friction when getting to where you want be in CoD.

Another way to look at Omnimovement and the automatic sliding/mantling feature is that Treyarch hopes to level play between mice and controllers. Aggressive aim assist does well at this, however core methods such as turning corners, quick turns and strafing are definitely simpler with PC.

The Black Ops 6 Direct stream was very light on other multiplayer details, however there are some important points:

  • 16 maps available at release: Traditional 6v6 map 12, as well as four that support two-way communication, including 6v6 and 2v2. There are no remakes at this point.
  • Round-based zombies are back: Last year’s open-world Zombie mode has been relegated to the past. Treyarch’s latest release will feature traditional round-based zombies, with two maps when it launches.
  • The classic Prestige: Black Ops 6 will return to the Prestige system that was in place prior to every Modern Warfare reboot of CoD. There are 10 first Prestige levels, each resetting your unlocks to zero. There are an additional 1,000 Prestige levels to go after.

We also are aware of when multiplayer will be getting their own attention: Call of Duty Next will be played on August 26th. Content creators will play the game in real-time, as they did previous years and the debut Black Ops 6 beta will come shortly thereafter.

Black Ops 6 releases two months later, on October 25.
