A Texas Woman’s senior has a summer work experience at the Dallas Mavericks. In addition, Everett gain experience working for a professional basketball squad and also feel the excitement of a team competing in the race for the NBA championship.

June 13 2024 Denton, Ashlyn Everett’s debut internship is a slam-dunk.

Everett who is majoring in marketing and fashion merchandising began her internship in merchandising the week before June 1 at the time that she noticed that the NBA Finals were kicking off.

“My first week was so exciting,” Everett stated. “Having the first game in the finals take place during my first week was a really good experience for me to see what goes on behind the scenes.”

Although the beginning of her job was unusual in certain way, Everett still had to master the art of acquiring new skills.

“Overall, the week was spent doing various orientations with other interns and training with my merchandising team,” Everett explained. “The day of the initial game, we had an overview of the various merchandise stores of American Airlines (Center) and were able to get a sense of the activities we’d be taking part in the following night. The first watch party I was in the principal location, The Hangar, and helped customers shop and discover the items they were looking for.”

Sales of merchandise peak during playoffs, so Everett is working on customer service.

“I have been working on spreadsheets, updating orders and also responding to customer emails regarding their purchases,” Everett stated. “As you can imagine, we are receiving lots of orders.”

Everett claimed it was an incredible energy in the office in the finals.

“Everyone is so nice and excited for the Mavs,” Everett stated. “Our Chief Executive Officer Cynt (Marshall) Marshall has been a master at making sure everyone is excited for the finals, and reminding us to take time and take in the moment. The first week, I was so stressed and anxious about starting my internship that I didn’t feel like I was fully present. My merchandising team has helped me feel more confident and enthusiastic about this new adventure.”

In the end, win or lose, Everett still has the whole summer to study all aspects of merchandising including design inventory management, product development and boards.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to work with amazing leaders and I am soaking up all the information I get,” she added.
