Ukraine Head coach Serhiy Rebrovhas provided a rather slack review, following a terrible start to the European Championship:

“Unfortunately we were beaten, but we will look at it and speak to the team. But this isn’t our last game. We certainly had a few mistakes, and we fell short in a few areas of the game, which is the reason why we fell.

“I thought we did well in the beginning. However, we faced some issues and it was a shame that we were not able to win the Euros teams, they have top players. We have to be at our best for us to score points in this tournament.

“Now we have to recover and prepare for the next game, which will be more serious than today.”

The next game will be in Dusseldorf on Friday. It will be against Slovakia and Slovakia, which kicks off against Belgium soon.

In reality, you can also follow Belgium in their match against Slovakia live on The Athletic, right here.

Full-time stats zone

After a quiet beginning, Nicolae Stanciu caught fire and the same happened to Romania. Here are the complete figures…

FT: Romania 3-0 Ukraine

  • Possession: 29% — 71%
  • Shots: 9 — 13
  • On target: 5 — 2
  • XG: 1.10 — 0.55
  • Blocked shots: 2 — 6
  • Duels took place: 37 — 42
  • Dispossessed: 9 — 5

The percentage of possession never changed following Ukraine’s initial initiative. Romania were all about how they could do with their ball once they had it. If they can maintain their current level of efficiency, they’re likely to be a challenge for a few teams during this tournament.

Then, Romania have returned to European Championship football in rip-roaring style, winning a historic match against Ukraine on the pitch in Munich.

Edward Iordanescu’s team did not get into Euro 2020 and had only scored three goals in the course of a Euros game prior to that — in their famous win 3-2 against England during Euro 2000.

However, in Munich they got the Euro 2024 campaign off to the perfect start thanks to goals scored by Nicolae Stanciu, Razvan Marin and Denis Dragus.

It’s great. Hagi has a megaphone. the entire Romanian team is sitting before the crowd while Hagi sings.

Everyone is now onto their feet. What a beautiful sight and a lot of energy in that spot.

An undiscovered treasure of an game

I think we’ve all been very rewarded for that by one of the most important goals of the tournament thus far coming of Nicolae Stanciu in addition to a memorable day to celebrate Romanian football.

This was the very first time Romania have won a single match at the Euros after beating England in 2000. That was their only win in knockout stage.

They may be able to achieve that accomplishment in the year 2024 based on the evidence.

Ukraine continues to work

90′ Romania 3-0 Ukraine

Some Ukraine corners are a bit sloppy and one drifted towards the other side of the post following Puscas attempted to clear a header.

The sun is about to leave the pitch, but it’s fair play to Ukraine. They’ve not stopped trying.

Four minutes of additional time remaining.

Mudryk is unable to take advantage of a huge opportunity on the move

84′ Romania 3-0 Ukraine

It’s a fantastic chance, but a big mistake in the end.

Then, Dovbyk appears with the ball. He’s been quiet in the second half.

He flings a slide rule pass left to the running Mudryk But he launches the shot with his left foot high, far off the mark and wide.

Chelsea Fans will likely be looking at that.

79′ Romania 3-0 Ukraine

It’s been 79 mins and we’ve got another yellow card, which is given towards Marin to give a free-hand with Mudryk. It’s possible that it’s a bit too harsh, but it’s over now.

In the case of the free-kick Mudryk places it in the box, and Nita can claim it at the other post.

Sudakov keeps Nita on the move.

77′ Romania 3-0 Ukraine

Mudryk is among the most energetic playing with the ball however Georgiy Sudakov has created a few issues.

He scores from 25 yards, and leaves Nita running around for a while before returning the ball.

Dragusin gets a huge cheer at every hurdle and victory. Oh, how the Romanian fans love him.

For the outstanding Denis Dragus up front, Denis gets his well-earned rest while George Puscascomes in.

Ukraine is rallying in the face of dismay

71′ Romania 3-0 Ukraine

The reaction has been echoed in Ukraine after the changes. Yarmolenko has fired a shot over the bar. Sudakov has his free-kick swung off Dragusin.

The corner can lead to a small which leads to an additional change for Ukraine.

Roman YaremchukVolodymyr Brazhkoand Andriy Yarmolenko and Andriy Yarmolenko, who throw fist-pumps to his teammates on the field, sprint to the pitch.

There are Stepanenko, Tsygankov and Shaparenko who are the ones to fill in.

60′ Romania 3-0 Ukraine

It’s two goals in only four minutes of the second period, and Romania seem to be interested in the chance to score more.

We’re also set to experience a lot of shifts as we reach one hour.

How did Dragus make it three times for Romania

57′ Romania 3-0 Ukraine

There’s an offside rule however the goal is still in play. Denis Dragusgets it shooting into an unfilled net in Dennis Man’s central position after a quick corner.

It’s an amazing shorter corner sequence. It’s also an awful way of defense from Ukraine.

How Razvan Marin got it done? for Romania

53′ Romania 2-0 Ukraine

Another right-footed, first time hit by Razvan Marin. It’s likely to be from 30 yards away and low.

It follows a quick well-organized break which leaves Ukraine trying in an attempt to keep up.

The real problem is the goalkeeper Andriy Lunin who seems to jump over the shot rather than securing the shot.

With the initial — however amazing — goal being the result of his poor goalkeeping This isn’t the big tournament debut that the Real Madrid stopper would’ve hoped for.
