The summer of soccer is here, and MLS teams are poised to level up in the transfer market.
No matter if it’s Leagues Cup, the Supporters’ Shield or MLS Cup It’s all about preparing your team to take home the trophy.
Here are a few teams I am keeping an eye on.
Note Important: The MLS Secondary Transfer Window runs between July 18 and August. 14. Teams can sign players prior to that time, but they won’t be able to start until the first day of the window.
LA Galaxy have no problem scoring goals. They’ve been able to boast among the top league’s most effective attacking teams, featuring Gabriel Pec, Joseph Paintsil, Riqui Puig and Dejan Joveljic. They may even add Borussia Dortmund legend Marco Reus this summer.
However, they’re not very good in defense and have conceded multiple goals in nearly every game. If they find a center-back who’s a leader, has experience, and who has some speed and speed and is able to consider the Galaxy seriously. I’d suggest keeping Maya Yoshida as a cornerstone, and replace her with a successful player who can help to achieve the trophy.
Every time I think of LA when I see them, I consider: “Yes, they’re dangerous. However, if it’s a single game, they’re likely to give up more than one goal and then need to outrun you.” We’ve all seen how efficient their offense can be. But, is their defense going to let their players out in the sun?
Cincy are home to one of the top line-ups in MLS. They have the current MVP, Luciano Acosta who is among the league’s top 10s. Their midfielders are the ones who do their dirty job.
But their striker position isn’t always steady and I don’t believe they’ve come up with a solution since moving Brandon Vazquez in the winter. They need a goal-scoring pro as Aaron Boupendza isn’t the one to be trusted and has caused a few headaches in both sides of the ball. I’m sure they’ll get away from the player this summer and recruit an DP who can score goals.
I am impressed by what I have seen in Kevin Kelsy He’s an exciting young player with several really great qualities when it comes to him facing goal and inside the box. He’s still in need of some time and Cincy requires something more dependable in the present. Yuya Kubo is also the most threatening No. 9 player and is more of than a utility player.
When Inter Miami upgrade their center backs, it’s not an issue of if they’ll be able to are winners of the Supporters’ Shield or MLS Cup. The problem is that they aren’t able to keep their defense in check and every shot over the top of their goal line is a problem. They’ve conceded the first goal in just 13 games this season. Their setup requires center backs who are able to stop fires when they are attacked by the opposition.
While there are reports of Inter Miami adding more in the attack, the real reality is that they require help in the center defense (especially following Nicolas Freire‘s ACL injury). I am not convinced regarding what the team will be like. Tomas Aviles and Sergii Kryvtsov pair.
I’m sure I know it’s Lionel Messi, I’m sure the name is Luis Suarez. However, you won’t always have the best goal in the world or get a free kick to bail you out. It’s simply too to much. It’s unlikely that you’ll enjoy those magical moments. Sometimes, you require the defense to make a difference in the outcome of the game.
What’s the most frightening thing about it? RSL is set to get even more effective during the summer.
What I’d like to know, whether they’re keeping Chicho Arango beneath a No. 9 jersey, is that they’re signing a striker that does not want to get to feet. They’re looking for someone to get behind the ball and extend defenses, which gives Chicho an even bigger space to play within. RSL are currently playing Anderson Julio as their DP however, they do have DP flexibility and could enhance the position.
When there’s Diego Luna and Andres Gomez in both wings with Chicho being slightly unrestrained and Chicho No. nine… They’ll take home the Supporters’ Shield with that group. They’re already the top team in on the West in scoring with 36 (second-most on the planet in MLS). They’re now able to take it to the next level.
Olivier Giroud, who is expected to arrive this summer, will be the perfect fit for the LAFC. However, if I’m John Thorrington and find a solution to include an Antoine Griezmann type who is able to play in a central position or out wide the team is really making.
A front three consisting of Giroud, Griezmann and Denis Bouanga? This could win you an MLS Cup or Supporters’ Shield. You can even place Griezmann in the midfield position and take Mateusz Bogusz or Cristian Olivera on the field. There are plenty of options in the midfield, too, with Eduard Atuesta, Timothy Tillman and Ilie Sanchez..
We don’t need to choose the squad, however. It’s up to Steve Cherundolo to figure out his role as the head coach. It’s about establishing more depth and increasing the tactical flexibility. We all know Thorrington has a track record of taking big leaps during the transfer window in summer.
I consider Charlotte‘s defense performance under Dean Smith and how tough it is to score against them. the team needs to come up with some new players to become truly dangerous. If Charlotte sign a proper No. 10 and a No. 9 that they can count on to achieve goals, and they get to a higher stage.
Patrick Agyemang is an excellent young player however he shouldn’t be under the burden at this young age to be the leader of their team. If they’ve got a proven goalscorer, someone who Agyemang is able to learn from, and when he is on the pitch for the final fifteen minute, Charlotte are a team that we’re talking about.
Colorado are an energized, working-class group which has seen their fortunes turn around this season under Chris Armas. They need a fresh broad player who can make the attack more effective.
Rafael Navarro will achieve goals and will work to the max. Djordje Mihailovic is beginning to be a good player as the No. 10. I really enjoy Cole Bassett in the No. 8 role.
If Colorado are able to add more flair during the last third an extremely well-known large player may be much more than just a middle-table squad.
