Simone Biles leads the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials 2024 after the second day, despite the injuries of some notable competitors
Simone Biles is the leader in the all-around competition after the first night of competition. She has won seven Olympic medals.
Although the first day of competition at the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials for 2024 wasn’t without its challenges, some of the top women gymnasts in the country are now halfway towards realizing their lifelong dreams.
Simone Biles topped the standings after the first night of competition. Biles did not have her best performance, but she still managed to win the other competitors with a score of 58.900.
Biles’ Tokyo Olympic teammates round out the top 4. Jordan Chiles also had a strong start at Trials. He ended the day with a score of 56.400 which placed him second in all-around.
Suni Le , the reigning Olympic All-around champion finished third in only her third elite all-around after she started her fight against kidney disease (56.025).
Jade Carey the reigning Olympic Floor Champ had one of the best all-around performance of her career. She scored 55.825, placing her fourth in all around.
Shilese, the bronze medalist in the world for all-around gymnastics, was injured during warm-ups. Her knee looked injured. She missed vault rotation and competed on uneven bar, then was scratched from the rest of competition.
Below you will find the highlights of each rotation.
Rotation 1
Simone Biles started her evening on the uneven bars. It is considered to be her weakest event. Biles earned a score of 14.425, with a clean routine, which included a simple hopping on the landing.
Suni began the vault competition. Although she slipped her hands on the table and landed on her feet, she still managed to perform the Yurchenko Double twist. She scored 13.525.
Leanne Wong debuted a Cheng with a slight step back. Wong wasn’t a leading contender for the Olympic team until several top competitors became injured. Wong could have a better chance of making the Olympic team because of the difficulty of that vault.
Wong was initially given a neutral detraction of two points because she did not support both hands sufficiently when she made contact to the table. After a review of the judges’ scores, Wong’s score went from 12.450 up to 14.450.
Jordan Chiles began her competition with an impressive bar routine (14.350).

Chiles’ beam mount was a good one. Her routine (13.625) was also pretty good.
Shilese did a nice routine on uneven bar. She had a good landing with only one hop. However, after the routine she felt a bit wincing.
Lee selected the uneven routine, which had a D-score score of 6.3. However, she did brush her toes after the Bhardwaj. The result was a three-tenths deduction. She still scored a 14.400, despite her difficult routine.
Biles’ beam performance was unsteady from the moment she mounted the beam. She had to fight hard to achieve the 13.650.
