Eighteen years ago, the South American soccer federation CONMEBOL made the bold decision to hold their 100th anniversary continental championship soccer tournament in the United States. Three matches were played at the State Farm Stadium, now in Glendale Arizona.
Copa America is returning to the United States by 2024. Arizona Cardinals home will host three matches. The stadium was a vibrant yellow as many fans came from South America and other parts of America.
If they win, Colombia may take over the group. Costa Rica can temporarily take the lead if it wins the game in a shock victory.

Colombia has qualified for the Copa America Quarterfinals following its 3-0 win over Costa Rica at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Friday. There is only one match left and that will be Tuesday’s match against Brazil, to be played in Santa Clara.
Colombia dominated the tournament from game statistics to fans in attendance. Colombia is a strong contender to win Group D. If it does so, they’ll return to Glendale and play the U.S. or Panama in quarterfinals.
Nestor Lórenzo has never lost a game since taking over as Colombia’s head coach two years ago.

“We’re a good team.” Lorenzo said after the game in Spanish: “They are good players.” “The quality of the players is important. They are competitive and follow their game plan. “
Costa Rican head coach Gustavo Alfaro has acknowledged the talent gap.
Alfaro said in Spanish that the other team was “clearly on a different level”. These losses hurt. Nobody wants to lose. No one wants to lose, especially 3-0. We must, however, learn how to handle them.

Two quick goals, Colombia in control over Costa Rica
Colombia took control of the match in the second half. Davinson’s header from a Costa Rica corner made it 2-0. Jhon Cordoba scored a side-angle shot with his right foot after a solo effort.
State Farm Stadium has become a party in Colombia, and they only need some salsa music to complete the celebrations. Colombia was attacking all match.

James Rodriguez was substituted in the 72nd minute. A standing ovation followed by applause from the crowd.

When Colombia came close to scoring, the “Cafeteros” and journalists in the State Farm Stadium press room would shout and stand up. This happened several time during the first-half.
Costa Rica’s defense is digging and they are not getting much ball control. Diaz who plays for Liverpool, England’s Premier League missed his header which went over the goal at the sixth minute. Costa Rica’s goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira saved James’ left-footed attempt.
