In the headlines: Neil Gaiman is accused of sexual assault, threatening to harm him.
Author denies claims by two women who had been in a relationship consensually with him.
Gaiman’s assertion is that he firmly disavows any accusations of sex without consent with women and says New Zealand police did not accept his offer of assistance regarding a woman’s complaint in 2022. This, Gaiman says, shows the absence of substance.
However, New Zealand police said it has put in “number of efforts to speak with people who are crucial to the investigation. Those efforts are continuing” and said there are “a variety of factors to consider in the investigation, including where the parties are”.
The allegations go back two decades, and concern teenagers who have come in contact with Gaiman who is a 63-year-old best-selling author of The Sandman, Good Omens and American Gods – as an nanny to his son as well as a fan and admirer of his writing.

The women’s claims were first revealed in the podcast by Tortoise “Master: The allegations of Neil Gaiman’ published on Wednesday. The four-part series explores the women’s experiences of brutal and humiliating sexual relations with Gaiman, who they assert wasn’t always congruous.
The majority of incidents of sexual assault happen within relationships, but most allegations are unreported, and therefore, not pursued because of the assumption that potential victims aren’t involved in a relationship where the accused attacker is. Although the law stipulates the need for consent in each and every sexual act, but many people assume that relationships offer an ongoing consent.
Scarlett 23, says she had been assaulted and Gaiman physically and physically assaulted her within just a few minutes of their first meeting in February 2022, while they were in the bath tub in the New Zealand residence, where she was a nanny for their son. Tortoise knows that Gaiman’s story is that they simply “cuddled” and “made the scene” in the bathtub, and it is the case that Gaiman gathered the permission to do the idea. Second woman K who was just around 18 when she was at this time was introduced to Gaiman in the flesh at his book’s launch in Sarasota, Florida in 2003. K began a relationship with Gaiman just after she turned 20 years old. By the time Gaiman was in 40, but she claims she was the victim of brutal as well as painful encounters “she didn’t want or even enjoy.” In one instance she alleges Gaiman attacked her, despite insistent that he shouldn’t because she was suffering from the infection. Gaiman’s assertion states that he was not involved in any illicit behavior during his relationship K and is shaken by the accusations.
Tortoise recognizes that K’s assertions are based on her regret over their relationship. He also believes Scarlett was suffering from a condition that was ascribed to false memories of the time she was in a relationship with him, a notion that doesn’t have any proof in her medical records or medical history.
Gaiman is listed in Time magazine’s list 100 most influential people in all of the globe. He is acknowledged for introducing comics to an international audience and has been called “the most adored writer on the planet in the present”. His writing has been adapted into Netflix and Amazon mini-series, Hollywood film in addition to West End shows. He was the guest speaker for previous season’s Tolkien lecture held at Oxford University and was chosen to host the upcoming season of the Queen’s Reading Room podcast.
