LONDON (AP) LONDON (AP) LONDON (AP) – Coco Gauff is not a stranger to the fourth round of Wimbledon. She was an unassuming 15-year-old who was playing her debut Grand Slam tournament in 2019 and again for the next occasion in 2021.

She’s never been to finals in the Quarterfinals for the All England Club, though she’ll have the chance to play again after defeating British qualified player Sonay Kartal 6-1 at 7-0, at the conclusion third round on the Friday.

For those who were at 2 Grand Slam finals before turning 20 — and who also won one of them at the final U.S. Open — making it to the quarterfinals and even reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon isn’t that a reasonable ambition.

“I feel like at this point, it feels as if losing in the fourth (round) or the quarterfinals feels the same in a way, just because I do have such big aspirations,” Gauff said. He reached the semi-finals of every Australian Open and French Open this year. “I do not know whether it’s fair to say this, but once you’ve won, you imagine it as an accomplishment throughout you life. I don’t be that way, clearly. If you are able to win a number of quarterfinals at Slams generally, it’s an indication that you’re likely to make it to finals. If you advance to a couple semifinals, you’re hoping to find the semis.

Gauff is among the two previous U.S. Open champions who are hoping to progress beyond the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first-ever time. Emma Raducanu is back to the second week in the very first time she has played since she made her debut at 18, in the year 2021. In the year she made her debut she had to withdraw due to breathing issues during their second match of Ajla Tomljanovic. She later said that her experience was when that she “caught up” with her.

After being hampered for two seasons, the British favorite in the home court is playing her best tennis since winning their 2021 U.S. Open title as the qualifying player. She beat the world’s number. 9 seeded Maria Sakkari of Greece 6-2 7-6 at Centre Court.

The anxiety of performing in front of a local crowd who has high expectations seems to have gone.

“Today was really up there with the most fun I’ve had on a tennis court,” Raducanu told reporters. “I absolutely enjoyed every minute during it. I’m sure I was thinking how many times do you get to be on a full Centre Court?

Gauff has also been a favorite of fans at Wimbledon since she burst onto the grass following her defeat of Venus Williams in the first round of the season in 2019.

It was an odd sensation for the American to know that a significant part of the population was likely to oppose an American in her final round on day on Friday. This is because she is playing Kartal who happens to be a British qualifying player who already exceeded expectations just in three rounds.

“I think this is my first time ever playing a British player here, so I was a little bit nervous honestly, going in,” Gauff told the crowd after he won in the no. 1 court. “Because I was aware you would all be behind her. This is totally normal.

Gauff will play another American following, Emma Navarro, who she beat by an easy set in Auckland in Jan. Navarro is playing two times at Wimbledon she was beaten in the first game in round one last year. She is also taking part in the fourth round at the French Open in June.

“I think when I played her at the beginning of the year, I wasn’t necessarily ready for that challenge,” Navarro declared in reference to Gauff. “I think I have the capability to beat anyone as formidable and powerful like Gauff. It’s a issue of playing it on a bigger stage.

The other women that made it into Round 16 included Madison Keys, Paula Badosa, Donna Vekic and French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini.

Raducanu as well as playing mixed doubles with Andy Murray, will next play qualifying Lulu Sun, who became the first woman from New Zealand to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon during the Open period.

Sun is a bit similar characteristics to Raducanu. Both have Chinese heritage through their maternal lines as well as Sun can also make it to the Grand Slam as a qualifier.

“Qualifiers are actually sometimes more dangerous,” Raducanu said. “I’m willing to take on an argument, however.
