Bolivar Peninsula, Texas

The impacts of Beryl’s hurricane Beryl create greater than 200, 000 power interruptions

Strong winds, heavy rain and lightning storms from the hurricane Beryl continue to affect areas of the Entergy Texas service area. At 12 p.m. about 201,000 Entergy Texas customers are without electricity. Most of the power interruptions are occurring within Montgomery, Jefferson, Walker and Liberty counties. More than 6,100 people are out of electricity within Galveston County, which includes the entire Bolivar Peninsula.

The weather-related conditions of the storm have caused the destruction of Entergy Texas transmission equipment, that caused 17 substations to go without power. When the storm has passed and it is safe to continue, Entergy Texas crews will start an official assessment of damage across the 27-county service area, and will decide on the best method of restoring the power supply to the communities.

Over 500 additional restoration workers are available and ready to help Entergy Texas crews with restoration. The estimated restoration time will be based on the extent of the damage that has occurred in the region.

Process of restoration:

When teams create their plans for restoration start from the point of origin. Entergy Texas generation plants are essential to provide the power our customers require. After that, the crews ensure those transmission lines that are high-voltage can safely supply energy to substations. The power is then transferred to those low voltage lines which provide electricity to businesses and homes. When power flows back into the area, the restoration takes place in the following order:

  • Life support, emergency services, facilities, and communications networks (police hospital, police stations industry, media) have been restored.
  • Lines that serve large sections of customers will be being restored in the coming days.
  • The lines that serve neighborhoods are a result of large numbers of customers aren’t getting power.
  • The individual services are restored since less customers are not out of power. when there are scattered outages, it usually takes longer and more effort to turn the power restored.

Entergy Texas encourages customers to be aware of these safety tips and keep them top of their minds:

  • Avoid power lines and other areas of sand. The power lines that are energized might not be visible through the rubble.
  • Contact downed lines immediately and immediately to Entergy on 800-9OUTAGE ( 1-800-968-8243 ) and then contact an emergency number at your police or fire stations.
  • Return to your home only in the event that authorities give you a warningand only travel on roadways and bridges that have been declared safe.
  • In the event that a power line comes down onto your vehicle while you are driving, you must continue to get to avoid the lines.
  • Do not walk through areas of flooding or areas with standing water. Keep in mind that wet limbs of trees may conduct electricity.
  • Be aware of your distance from the working crews. Work sites could pose any variety of dangers that are hidden to people in general, and distractions from workers could create accidents.
