U.S. Soccer Federation Announces Departure of U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Gregg Berhalter

 

CHICAGO (July 10, 2024) 2024) CHICAGO (July 10th, 2024) The U.S. Soccer Federation announced today that Gregg Berhalter has been relieved of his position as Head Coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team with effect from today.

“I want to thank Gregg for his hard work and dedication to U.S. Soccer and our Men’s National Team,” stated U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone. “We are now focusing in working closely with the Sporting Director Matt Crocker and leveraging his expertise at the top levels of the game to make sure we select the ideal person to guide the USMNT into an era of new playing field success. 

U.S. Director of Sports for Soccer Matt Crocker will lead and has started a search for a replacement for Berhalter.

“We are deeply grateful to Gregg for his commitment the past five years to the Men’s National Team and to U.S. Soccer,” Crocker said. “Gregg has earned the trust of everyone within our organization and has been the key person in bringing together an aspiring team and moving the team forward. We wish Gregg succeeds in the future and we’re confident that he will succeed when he takes over the coaching role. 

U.S. Soccer is determined to accomplish the things necessary for success on the field. We’re determined to create the mindset that leads to success.

“Our immediate focus is on finding a coach who can maximize our potential as we continue to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, and we have already begun our search process,” Crocker declared. Crocker.

Berhalter achieved an average of 44-17-13 in the 74 games he played during his tenure as the USMNT head coach. He also had 29-9-7 records in official matches in his time and guided the USMNT to a great 2022 World Cup qualification campaign. 2022 was the first time that he was the first former national player to coach their team from the U.S. at a World Cup and he led the youngest team to a second-place finish Group B. They scored five points after draws against Wales and England and a win over Iran and then losing in the round of 16 against Netherlands in the Round of 16.
