“As the Best State for Business, it is critical that Texas continues to invest in our students with the skills they need to succeed in high-demand industries,” stated the Governor Abbott. “These job training grants will ensure that thousands of Texans are ready for future opportunities in our state’s expanding economy. I would like to thank all the members of the Texas Workforce Commission for their continuous support in building an experienced and highly skilled workforce.

“The need for highly skilled workers across the state is increasing as Texas’ economy continues to grow,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel. “JET grants such as these will enable thousands of Texans with the skills to fulfill the demands from our workers.

This morning, TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Trevino III presented the prizes during a reception that was attended by state and local officials, as teachers located on campus at Laredo College.

These two JET grants comprise:

  • Jim Hogg County ISD: a $266,868 grant for 126 students who will be trained to become cutters and welders as well as solderers and brazers working in partnership along with Coastal Bend College.
  • United ISD awarded 311 531 dollars for the training of 1100 nursing students in becoming registered nurses and Laredo College.

With the help of funds provided through the Texas Legislature each biennium, TWC uses JET grants to help cover initial costs of the creation of technical and career education available to the public state and technical schools, as well as state as well as school that are open to enrollment. Equipment purchased through JET grants must be utilized to assist students in preparing for careers in high-demand fields.
