“Protect her always A’ja Wilson Aces are together with Kate Martin after on-court injury
The entire Las Vegas Aces bench rushed onto the court in order to assist newcomer Kate Martin after she injured her right leg in the lower region of her body after being struck by the Chicago Sky.
The friendship that is team members of Las Vegas Aces was evident Tuesday night, when everyone on the team and the staff quickly gather around Guard Kate Martin after the rookie suffered a painful injury to her right lower leg.
Martin suffered a fall with 1:09 left during the first half of their match. Martin being injured with only one minute remaining in the opening quarter with Chicago Sky. Aces (16-8) Aces (16-8) were not able to overcome the scoring power of Cherynny Carter, and Angel Reese and eventually fell 93-85 in the game against Sky (10-14). Sky (10-14).
Martin had been dribbling around court when she appeared to fall, then she snagged her right ankle as her body slid to the floor. She continued to rest on for about one minute, in discomfort and pain.
Within seconds, Martin’s team, comprising everyone on his teammates from the Aces benches, began surrounding Martin on the court, while players used towels to shield Martin the veteran Iowa Hawkeyes player from the cameras.
“I’m gonna take care of my rookie no matter what,” Aces star A’ja Wilson stated during a press conference after the game. “She’s one of us. We consider her our sister and we’re able to depend on and trust. But while cameras could be negatively impacting your business, and we do not wish to see that happen. We don’t want this. We will do all we can to ensure our peace and also her mental wellbeing and her emotions.
“We’re going to protect her at all costs because you never (know) what the internet or people may do,” Wilson declared.
Martin was later taken off the court with her teammate. Martin was able to return to her bench during the next section in sweatpants, atop her uniform. Martin did not return on the court.
Head Coach for the Aces Becky Hammon stated that she did not have the opportunity to talk to the medical staff and was unable to provide further information regarding Martin’s health.
“I know (she’s) freakin’ tough, so I don’t know how bad it is but she’s a tough cookie,” Hammon declared after the game.
Martin’s injury comes during the time when Martin’s injury occurs just as the WNBA starts their week-long Olympic vacation. The Aces aren’t scheduled to take part until August. 17 when they’ll face the team that is the top of the league, New York Liberty (21-4 ).
