The new Slipknot drummer Eloy Casagrande recently spoke out about his audition process with the group as well as how he ended up being the first to be a part of with the Iowan unit. In a new interview with Tone Talk, the Slipknot guitar player Jim Root reveals that the band didn’t test out any other musicians outside of Casagrande. In other words, as Root says the band was clearly no-brainer once the Slipknot discovered the guy in front of a drum set.

“We haven’t even tried anyone more. Eloy‘s name was mentioned. He approached us regarding wanting to be an integral part of the band and then started sending a lot of videos. I believe he and our bass player may have been in a more of a connection before. They probably had a connection. They shared acquaintances. Also, the Slipknot bassistVman is a Slipknot bassist. Vman‘s extremely connected to a lot of great heavy, proggy musicians who are passionate about their instruments. It was an easy decision.

“And He’s extremely mindful of the legacy left by Joey Jordison. JordisonHe’s very respectful of the legacy of Joey [Jordison] in addition, Joey was a major influence on his. He’s also very humble. The man has a tremendous amount of humility. You can tell that he lives and breathes his craft to the point that I feel his passion and it ignites my enthusiasm in my guitar. Brazilians, and South Americans in general, are incredibly passionate about their professions. The manager of our company told me that he went going out for dinner with a group of promotors of South America, and they were all incredibly excited. They’re all saying”It’s amazing that to have an Brazilian musician who is in Slipknot today. It’s almost like we’ve been crowned this World Cup.’

“It’s a cool feeling. And God, he just fits in so well. I don’t know, man. I mean, there’s a lot of things I can say about it. I’m just glad it happened when it did. And we’re lucky to have him — we are really lucky to have that dude.”

For new ideas with CasagrandeRoot revealed that they’ve exchanged ideas in a variety of ways yet nothing definitive has come up as of yet.

“We aren’t quite ready to start working on that yet. We’ll be working on it in the near future. Eloy has sent me some drum loops. He sent me an email with some… Eloy is a prolific producer of drum videos of his own and play-alongs from his studio at home, and other things similar to that. So he emailed me five or six minutes durations ranging from one minute to two minutes long of him just playing drums. I downloaded them to my computer. I then transformed them into files I could load in Pro Tools. It was then that I took a few minutes trying to write melodies for the tracks.

“It was a little difficult as he basically sent me drum solos that lasted two minutes. It’s not my forte. adept at locating a little that I can cut it into pieces and looping it back for a sound that sounds like “Okay, this is like like an intro riff to the drums. It is a sound that could be an instrumental riff that is based on drums. The reason is that the ones he gave me contain, in a way lots of actual fake drumming, and a lot of music. And I composed riffs for almost everything.

“There’s one in particular that I’m thinking about that if it does turn into a song, it’s gonna be an awfully chaotic song, which could be really cool. So, yes and no, he’s contributing, but we haven’t really gotten there yet. We’re trying to get these shows under our belt first and then it’s time to put our nose to the grindstone and start the creative writing process.”
