Bernie Sanders’ tough love for the Harris campaign

The famous Vermont senator explains to Playbook what his supporters would like to hear from the Harris-Walz campaign, and the way he thinks they could be successful in November.

Any shrewd observer will know that Sanders has a notoriously tense relations with the Democratic establishment. He’s also been sparing with his praise of Harris his campaign thus far.

In contrast, the areas where Sanders has had a strong lead in polls for a long time including minorities, young people and progressives were among the weakest points in the Biden-Biden coalition, which led many Democrats to call for Biden’s replacement.

In the midst of only 75 days left before the election, these exact Democrats are betting Kamala Harris as well as Tim Walz can shore up these important groups. They’re even seeking Bernie to help.

In that spirit, Playbook Co-author Ryan Lizza as well as Deep Dive host Ryan Lizza spoke to Sanders at the restaurant CNN-Politico Grill, to gain a more candid view of Sanders’ Harris campaign than you’ll find in the DNC speeches.

In their discussion they discussed the possibility that Joe Biden should have quit from the beginning and how Democrats are able to win the support of minorities, young people and progressives; as well as areas where Harris’s policies are in his favor and areas where he believes Harris should move closer to him to be successful.
