HTML0 Affirmed by their dedicated fans who traveled with them, Colombia were the more successful team on the game on Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Brazil which brings the Copa America group phase to the end of. It was a close game for the Selecao almost got victory right in the final minutes in the final minutes, after Andreas Pereira had an attempt from the outside of the field that was with a dazzling speed that was redirected by goalkeeper Camilo Vargas . However, it could have been a crime.
In the scorching temperatures of the Santa Clara sunshine, this was a match that could bring plenty of heat, along with some light moments. There is an animosity that the two sides have which with a huge crowd likely to be a fierce fight. Colombia played with their place in the quarterfinals secure and in the event of any chance of mathematical marvel and a mathematical marvel also happened to Brazil. There was a compelling argument for taking one step back and take time off from a most important player, especially those who had a white card away from suspension.
This was an issue which neither team took note to. Both teams didn’t give up and Colombia will now be in their quarterfinals without the star middlefielder Jefferson Lerma. Brazil however had a better performance. They will not be without Vinicius Jr. The team who won the group has been drawn after an 1-1 draw. Colombia will play the Copa’s surprising group Panama. Brazil have, however, been relegated to face the more dangerous Uruguay. Additionally the Brazil players having to endure a long second-half chorus in the form of “ole” or “ole” in the direction of Colombian fans as they moved the ball around the field and a question is asked: What was the value of this?
Uruguay can enjoy an extra day to rest before the quarterfinal match on Saturday. If we review the past, could Brazil benefit put off their top players, especially those with yellow cards, and ensure that the pitch is clear to prepare the Bielsa’s Uruguay?
The great part is Brazil scored their first goals straight from penalty kicks following the goal of Phillippe Coutinho during a match with South Korea in November of 2019. Brazil came close to securing a second. After scoring his team a quick lead with an impressive strike at the wall in their way, Raphinha almost added another goal following the interval. He hit a cross-shot which was just over. And, as one would expect his team of and Vinicius on the flanks brought many problems for the Colombian forwards. Vinicius probably was not lucky enough to earn an injury-time penalty from Daniel Munoz even though it was still an 1-0 score, however, there wasn’t enough of an end result. There are times that the absence a centre-forward is an issue. In addition, credit should be given to the coverage provided by those who cover Colombian centre-backs, specifically the usually discredited Davinson Sanchez. His speed was crucial in when Vinicius was capable of cutting through.
The biggest problem for Brazil was in midfield. It was necessary for a way to defend the veteran right defensive player Danilo against Luis Diaz’s ferocity and skill the likes of Luis Diaz, and as so, Joao Gomes was brought to help Luis Diaz. But it led to James Rodriguez able to make more space and swoop all over the field, looking for tiny pockets to guide the play.
The set-pieces he scored always posed a threat. He hit the bar first with a free kick. He after which he crossed over to score a Sanchez goal, but it was disallowed because of an offside decision and was always coming up with new ways to scare Brazil’s defense. Brazil defence. Colombia had several chances, but did not have chances to even the scores as Rodriguez played a pivotal part in the equalizer shortly before half-time. He slipped in the middle for John Cordoba to play the crucial role. He changed his position before passing the ball to Munoz to move into space, before smashing the goal, slipping it past Alisson Becker.
Lucas Paqueta may be the person who was not paying attention to the game. He was taken off during the interval. But, the game got worse without Lucas Paqueta’s. The replacement Pereira struggled to maintain the intensity of the match and, apart from the final shot, he was barely observed. After the 2nd half, Brazil did not manage to get across the field, and Colombia was in front. They could have taken the lead, the best chance coming the moment that Diaz took on the role of substitute Rafael Santos Borre, who scored an goal that was far. In the future, or perhaps during the semifinals in the semifinals against Brazil Colombia Colombia may be penalized for failing to turn opportunities into goals.
Brazil will but they will face criticism in their press. In a match that they had to win to keep out Uruguay Coach Dorival Junior did not sit until the very last minute of the game before making the decision to go for forward Endrick. With stiff legs and possibly some doubts about their ability to go to the end of the tournament, the team is headed to Arizona to compete against Uruguay.
A bit of ease. The five teams in the bottom of the South American World Cup qualification list have all seen coaches replaced since the tournament started in the month of September. After a terribly poor year in 2023, Brazil is among the most shaky. The other four teams – the four – Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia and Peru and Peru haven’t seen any improvement. They’ve all been eliminated from the Copa without a single point and not even an ounce of goals. Brazil however, are unbeaten and in the process of winning. They’ll have to climb Everest with a lot of effort in order to claim this Copa but, at the very most in the brief moments of excellence against Colombia they showed their determination.
