DORTMUND, Germany (AP) — Cristiano Ronaldo should consider himself lucky to have come to no harm after being confronted on the field by four supporters who wanted selfies during a European Championship match on Saturday, Portugal coach Roberto Martinez said.

The alarming series of security breaches occurred during the second half of Portugal’s 3-0 victory against Turkey at Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion.

Ronaldo was delighted to take a selfie with a fan who was able to get past stewards to take to the field during the final 69th minutes prior to taking out his phone.

The problem is that Ronaldo appeared to have been displeased after two others tried to replicate the situation during the closing minutes of the match. Another person sporting the red Portugal jersey — walked close to the 39-year-old striker and took an image moments after the whistle had blown.

Another couple of people attempted to challenge Ronaldo after he left the field along with his team-mates, but were stopped by security at those times.

“It is a concern,” Martinez declared, “because today we were fortunate that the intentions that the fan base had were positive.

“We all want to be those who are fans of the biggest stars and giant icons that they see in their mind. We’re all in agreement with that. But that it was a extremely challenging moment If the intentions aren’t right, then the players are at risk and we have to be cautious about this. It’s not something that should occur on a football field.”

Martinez stated that it was crucial to communicate to fans that this conduct is not acceptable.

“It’s not the right way, you’re not going to get anything out of it,” Martinez said. “And the way you conduct yourself is most likely to cause more harm in the near future.

“It’s not good to get the players so exposed when you have people running on the pitch.”

Bernardo Silva, Ronaldo’s teammate and scorer against Turkey He said the soccer player is “not really concerned” about the fans who poured onto the field.

“It’s just a bit annoying in terms of having to stop the game because a fan enters the pitch,” Silva declared. “That’s the cost of being famous as a football player.

“In the sense of being at risk”No, not at all. No, not me personally.”
