Jake Cronenworth homered and had five hits for the season and a go-ahead double in the seventh. Luis Arraez hit a two-run homer for the San Diego Padres, who defeated the league-leading NL Central Milwaukee Brewers 9-5 for their third consecutive win.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Jake Cronenworth homered, had a career-high five hits, including a go-ahead single in the seventh, and scored four runs for the San Diego Padres, who beat the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers 9-5 on Friday night for their third straight win.

The Padres were without the top right-fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. and left fielder Jurickson Profar to injuries, and also committed four mistakes.

Tatis was ejected after in two innings following an injured left triceps muscle when Tatis was struck by a ball on his left arm by ex- San Diego pitcher Colin Rea after two outs in the third. He fell to one knee with pain and was examined by an athletic trainer. Tatis took the bases before taking his place at right-field for the following two innings. When his turn in the batting sequence was up in the fifth inning, Tatis was replaced by the pinch-hitter Tyler Wade.

“It’s going to be fairly sore,” manager Mike Shildt. “We’ll check in on him tomorrow and kind of go from there.”

Tatis hit a homer of 446 feet during Thursday night’s 7-6 loss.

Profar left the field after hitting an RBI during the 7th. He’s been struggling with the patellar tendinitis on his knee in a few weeks.

“Some days are better than others,” Shildt stated. “He was in that moment where I appreciate it, he was like, ‘Man, it doesn’t feel great.’ Again, more grit, more heart.”

After Profar left, Cronenworth singled off Hoby Milner (3-1) to bring in pinch runner Oscar Azocar for a 6-5 lead. The Padres added another by allowing Donovan Solano was hit by an errant pitch with bases loaded, and a mistake.

“Any way we can impact the game, get out there and try to help the team win is what I’m here for,” Cronenworth declared.

“It’s the same as what we’ve been doing throughout the year. Incredible job,” Cronenworth said. “They jump out to that 4-1 lead and it seemed like we just kept having good at-bats and trying to grind the guy down and got to their bullpen and did a really nice job with that.”

Luis Arraez hit a two-run homer. Manny Machado had four hits for the Padres.

“Man, you talk about some heart, grit, the ability to find solutions,” Shildt stated. “We say it internally, winners do find solutions.”

Stephen Kolek (1-0) got the win. Enyel De Los Santos took the final five runs for his first save.

Cronenworth was able to tie the game at 4 when he hit the solo homer in left in the 6th inning, his 12th. Manny Machado doubled to chase Rea and Solano who came in as an infielder on the side and hit a go-ahead single. Machado had four hits.

Cronenworth hit a walk-off homer on Thursday night.

The Brewers kept the score with 5 at the end of seventh inning on two consecutive singles, as well as Kim’s second throwing mistake of the game.

The Brewers were able to take a lead of 4-1 in the fifth inning, and were following Padres starting pitcher Dylan Cease in the process.

However, the Padres made their comeback official with a rout when Arraez hit a homer to the right fielder after two outs in the fifth inning, his second.

Cease gave up five hits and four runs in 4 2/3 innings. He also the pitcher struck out 10 while walking two.

Rea pitched five scores and six hits in 5 1/3 innings. He also with two walks and striking out one.

Brewers Re-instated RHP Jakob Junis from the 60-day injured list. Optioned RHP Bradley Blalock to Double-A Biloxi. Junis had been on Biloxi’s opening day roster, but only made one appearance before being placed on the IL due to an injury to his shoulder. He’ll pitch from the bullpen. Blalock returned to Triple-A on a day after pitching a scoreless innings as he became the nineth Brewers participant to have the MLB debut during the season.

UP NEXT

Brewers RHP Carlos Rodriguez (0-2, 6.48 ERA) and Padres RHP Randy Vasquez (1-4, 5.70) are scheduled to begin the day on Saturday.
