Two prominent names are not in the final of the high bar event at 2024’s Paris Olympics.
The defending Olympic winner Daiki Hashimoto Daiki Hashimoto of Japan as well as American Brody Malone who is the 2022 world champion in high bar Both were unable to perform well in the qualifying round and were unable to make it into the semifinal. Both were thought to be formidable candidates in the race for gold.
The top 8 athletes from each event (two for each nation) advance to the finals of their event.
Malone has made an incredible return from a horrendous knee injury in March 2023 to claim the third all-around national championship in the past year. He appeared like the U.S. men’s best chance to win an all-around title in Paris. But in the initial division, Malone fell once on pommel horse twice and once on the high bar, putting him out of the high bar and all-around event final.
“(It was) simple mistakes that I usually don’t do,” Malone said. “But it occurs. It’s sports. It’s not always the best. So, I’m going to do a reset tomorrow at the gymnasium, and reestablish my foundation by learning a few fundamentals and then get ready for the team’s finals.”
In the second division Hashimoto’s chances to defend his title was shattered after he fell from the bar’s high point which prevented him from progressing towards the next.
