Electrical Pole, Oxygen Cylinders: Why Fire At Delhi Children’s Hospital Spread

Seven infants were killed after an attack by a fore ripped through the hospital for children in the eastern region of Delhi late the night. The hospital’s owner is currently wanted and has reportedly fled to Jaipur according to reports from police. Delhi Police.
“Twelve newborn babies were rescued from the hospital with the help of other people,” the Deputy Director of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary made a statement in the release, however, when they arrived at medical facilities seven of them were dead.
The blaze, which began to rage at 11.32 pm, rapidly grew in size because of the presence of several oxygen cylinders which began to expand, spreading the fire further, causing extensive destruction.
“We received the call at 11.32 pm and initially dispatched seven fire trucks, followed by an additional fourteen. There were 4-5 explosions that significantly worsened the fire, with oxygen cylinders being hurled as far as 50 meters away. The building, which was ground plus three stories high, housed the children on the first floor and a storage area on the second. The fire spread to adjacent floors as well,” Atul Garg Chief Fire Officer, told NDTV of the horrific incident that occurred in the evening.
Firefighters fought the flames for three hours. During that the difficulty of locating and rescuing infants made it more difficult.
“We did not know the exact number of children inside,” Mr Garg said. “The initial cause of the fire seems to have been an electrical pole igniting, which then set fire to a parked vehicle, eventually causing the oxygen cylinders to catch fire.”
Mr. Garg said that, while the building was said to have received an Non Objection Certificate (NOC) but the department didn’t have documents of the certificate. “We are verifying the NOC. If it’s found lacking, we will recommend the building’s closure. An investigation is underway to determine if proper firefighting measures were in place, but it’s difficult to assess right now as the building is completely gutted.”
Conscient of the seriousness in the matter, the proprietor of the facility, Naveen Kichi, escaped before police arrived at his house. Police believe he could be located in Jaipur and have formed an team to track him down and detain the suspect.
Delhi The Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal announced that anyone who responsible for the incident will be accountable.
