Actor, comedian, and actress Erica Ash has died at age 46. She was a household name for her work on MadTV as well as the show that was created by Survivor’s Remorse, the Rosie O’Donnell sitcom The Big Gay Sketch Show and the Kevin Hart series Real Husbands of Hollywood.

“After an extremely long and arduous fight of cancer, she passed away in peace, surrounded by her beloved family and friends,” reads a statement from her family, and shared by NPR from Ash’s PR. “Erica was an incredible woman and a talented entertainer who touched many lives by her sharp wit, laughter, and genuine enthusiasm for life. Her legacy will be forever within our memories.”

Ash was the first to begin her stage career with credits that included Babies It’s You on Broadway as well as the Disney tour production The Lion King and Off-Broadway’s show Soul Doctor.

The daughter of an U.S. Army Captain/Chaplain, and math teacher, Ash traveled a lot throughout her childhood, even visiting Germany. She graduated from Emory University with a premed degree. She was also fascinated by performance when she was a kid. After Emory left, she emigrated to Japan to pursue modeling or singer, as well as an actor.

Of the many actors who pay the tribute of Ash, Siedah Garrett writes, “Moved to tears at the loss of the beautiful, talented and funny actor from Survivor’s remorse… Erica generously collaborated with me on an original prisonhouse show that I sent to Netflix.

“Erica Ash was a shining star. Beautiful, funny and incredibly gifted,” writes Christopher Landon, who directed Ash in the film We Have A Ghost., “I was blessed to collaborate with her and be my friend. My heart is with the Ash family as well as her friends at this moment.”
