Hiram Kasten comedian and regular on ‘Seinfeld dies aged 71.

Kasten was a mainstay of the New York City stand-up scene and appeared on numerous occasions in the show “Seinfeld.”

Actor Hiram Kasten, who made his mark in stand-up comedy and network TV shows like “Seinfeld,” died in western New York after a prolonged illness, his family said Sunday.

Kasten was aged 71 when he passed away in Batavia close to Buffalo according to a post in his Facebook page..

“Hiram Kasten loved show business and lived his dream of being in show business,” Kasten’s family stated in a statement that announced his passing.

The cause of his death was not revealed, but the family members said that he’d suffered from “fighting through a multitude of illnesses” over the last 7 years “including prostate cancer.”

Over the last two years, Kasten has been informing his acquaintances that they were dying.

“His great comedy and artistic community rallied to his side,” his family members told the press. “Some made trips to Batavia to visit him, late night Zoom meetings with friends on both coasts ensued and went into the wee hours of the morning.”

Kasten is an Bronx native and a lifelong Yankees enthusiast was a staple of New York’s comedy scene through the 1980s. He performed at clubs such as The Comic Strip and Comedy Cellar.

He was a fan of the art of comedy, and would often perform marathon weekends, performing shows in remote locations such as New Jersey and Staten Island before heading back to Manhattan for a late-night set.

“It was a big deal to have a show outside of town and then two or three spots in town on the weekend,” according to the Facebook announcement. “One could actually make a living, and he did!”

Kasten then relocated from Los Angeles to pursue acting and continued to work steadily through the 1990s and into the early the 2000s and was featured in“7th Heaven,”” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Mad About You,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “L.A.Law,” “Seinfeld” and “It’s Like It’s Like, …”

The actor’s “Seinfeld” work came in three episodes from 1993 to 1994 as an employee who was Elaine Benes, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Kasten along with his wife Diana Kastenbaum moved to Batavia in 2012 to be near her elderly father. She ran for Congress in 2016.

Kasten was survived by his wife, and daughter Millicent Jade Kastenbaum.
