I tried McDonald’s grandma McFlurry so you don’t have to. Here’s my review.

You don’t need to try it. Here’s what I thought.

It’s just like Grandma used make. Wait, what?

You’re telling that a grandmother made this McFlurry, right?

The ” Grandma McFlurry” is the latest limited-time offering from McDonald’s. It was released in stores on Tuesday. You’re not the only one who is confused by the name. I just ate this and I don’t know what’s inside. McDonald’s McFlurry treats are known for their self-explanatory names — the Oreo McFlurry, M&M McFlurry is a classic — but naming one after the matriarch requires explanation.

In a press release, the dessert is described as “delicious sugar syrup and crunchy candy pieces” (like Grandma’s favorite treats that she kept in her purse!) “Mixed with vanilla soft serve, the dessert is described as having “delicious syrup and chopped, crunchy candy pieces (like grandma’s favorite treat that she hid in her purse! My aunt Sis gave me licorice every time, but where is my licorice McFlurry from? The photos show that this dessert is an imitation of Werther’s Original Butterscotch Hard Candies. You can call them grandma candy.

You can call me grandma but I love these little butterscotch discs. Even though I couldn’t read the instructions, I was still excited to try this dessert. National Grandparents Day falls in September. I’m certainly not saying that we shouldn’t celebrate grandma on a daily basis, but it’s ok to do so once a year. I’m fairly certain that my grandmother hasn’t had a McFlurry.

It’s funny that McDonald’s is launching a McFlurry advertising campaign, but the machines that make them are “broken” so often that they’ve inspired conspiracy theory and federal investigations. McDonald’s employees may not want to do the difficult dessert. If you order a drink at midnight, it’s possible that the same thing will be said. Note: Do not order a drink at midnight.

I was therefore relieved to find that the woman working at the drive-thru did not reject my order of the grandma McFlurry. The machine was working and the dessert came in a pink cup with a McDonald’s quilt logo, as well as the script “xoxo Grandma”. Excellent branding.

What about the taste? Butterscotch was immediately apparent. Butterscotch may not be to everyone’s taste, but I absolutely love it. It was borderline overwhelming, but it is hard to make butterscotch a subtle flavor.

The flavor was not an issue. The texture was. The texture was. They were not quite soft or crunchy. Instead, they were chunky. Not very pleasant.

I wish that there were more butterscotch pieces in the pie than candy pieces. Those were delicious! Butterscotch syrup was mixed in with the ice-cream and it was delicious.

Is it my favorite McFlurry? No, it’s not. I wish McDonald’s offered us the McFlurries that they have in international locations. Canada got a caramel popcorn McFlurry! EuroCanada got a caramel popcorn McFlurry! Europe got a Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry. We have the grandma McFlurry. Cool.

Please excuse me. I’m calling my grandmother. She might want a McFlurry.
