Jade Carey impacted by illness during the gymnastics’s qualifying session

The current Olympic floor champion won’t get the opportunity to defend her crown after an unexpected performance from Jade Carey in Sunday’s gymnastics qualifying session.

While Simone Biles was struggling with an injury to her leg on Sunday at Paris, U.S. gymnastics teammate Jade Carey had her own hurdle to conquer.

Carey revealed to Olympics.com following the Sunday’s qualifying session that her unusually unpredictable performance was not due nervousness, but rather due to an illness.

“I am not in good health for the past couple of days, and I’ve not been able to eat, and drink any liquid,” Carey said.

In the floor routine, Carey made a few blunder as well as her most recent tumbling move. It appeared that she was suspended in mid-air while performing the possible double tuck. Carey chose to do one tuck, and then fell on her back, which caused her to go over the edge of the tuck. Carey is currently the Olympic floor champion and came in the last place among floor athletes, with at an average 10.633 and isn’t likely to get the chance for defending the Tokyo title.

“I was feeling like I was lacking energy this morning, and I didn’t have a an concept of what was happening in my mind. So, I believed that everyone should be aware of it to be aware that something is wrong.” Carey stated.

But, Carey bounced back on vault with scores of 14.433 which was sufficient to make her the last round of vault Biles. Biles. Carey’s mother, Danielle, might have been the most nervous participant on the whole arena:

The team competition for women will take place on the 30th of July, as in addition to the final for women’s vault takes place on the first Saturday of August. 3.
