Kolkata: A resident of Kolkata died in the Kanchenjunga Express accident in North Bengal. So far it is known that 8 people have died and many injured in Monday’s train accident. One of the dead is a resident of Kolkata. The name of the deceased is Shankar Mohan Das, aged 62 years. He was in the damaged compartment.
He was working in RMS department i.e. parcel van. At 8:30 last phone call with the family. Since the accident, there was no contact. By 10:25, the family reached the search center at Sealdah station. Later it was reported that he died in the accident.
Kanchenjunga Express left New Jalpaiguri station for Sealdah on Monday morning. Around 8:50 am near Phansidewar Rangapani station, suddenly a freight car hit the train from behind.
Four coaches of Kanchenjunga Express derailed. At least two of them are cargo rooms. Eight deaths have been reported so far. More than 30 with injured. The death toll is expected to increase. The impact on the cargo compartment at the rear may have resulted in fewer casualties, otherwise the deaths would have been horrific.
