MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) Monson, Massachusetts (WWLP) Monson Savings Bank has donated $2500 towards the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Presbyterian Church Fire Fund and continues its commitment to support the community.
The church which was founded by blacks in 1897, was the target of arson attacks in December of 2020, which caused $2.5 million in damages. Despite this defeat, the church’s members are resilient and continue to worship at the interim location.
Monson Savings Bank President & CEO Dan Moriarty condemned the arson and was impressed by the response of the church, declaring “The actions of arsonists who targeted MLK Church are despicable. As soon as my team and I learned of the incident we decided to join the Church and help the cause in every way possible. I’d want to urge others to come join us. No contribution to the Fire Fund is too small.” Moriarty pointed out the church’s positive attitude and swift action to locate a more suitable location for services, as well as to manage fundraising efforts as truly remarkable.
