NHRA famous John Force, 75, alert following a fiery Funny Car crash

John Force, who has an impressive 157 NHRA Funny Car titles over his long and illustrious career, was admitted to a hospital after his engine burst and he smashed into the wall guards.

DINWIDDIE, Va. -DINWIDDIE, Va. – NHRA legend John Force was alert and talking to safety officials immediately following an fierce 300 speed crash Sunday during the Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park.

John Force Racing announced that his 75 year-old Force was evaluated in the course by the NHRA medical staff before being flown by a an ambulance to the hospital to be further evaluated.

In the first phase of Funny Car eliminations, the Engine exploded in Force’s car near the end of the race, the car crossing the center line, before striking the left guard wall of concrete before crashing back to the wall on the right.

Three weeks ago, in New Hampshire, Force raced to record his 157th NHRA victory and his second in the series. In 2007, at the age of 58, Force was seriously injured after a collision during a race at Ennis, Texas.

“We’re keeping our friend John Force in our thought and prayers. He’s a tough cookie.” stated Tony Stewart, the former NASCAR star who is now racing in the NHRA’s Top Fuel class.

After the race on Sunday, a long time after the crash of Force’s teammate, Austin Prock won the Funny Car division beating Bob Tasca III in the final round.

“[The trophy] is going straight to the hospital to John Force,” Prock declared from the winner’s circle.

“It’s hard to watch someone go through this particularly when it’s someone you truly love But I’m sure that he’ll come back. Race car driver, we are. we must flip the switch. I’m sure John would like us to be here doing around, and I’m happy we completed our task.”
