OpenAI announced on Thursday that it will test a prototype of the new search-based AI tool, dubbed SearchGPT to begin another phase in industry’s rapid AI revamp.

What is the significance of HTML0?Tech experts think that search engines of the past will be replacedto ChatGPT-like conversational interfaces to become the predominant method of online information gathering.

  • However, most AI chatbots today aren’t doing an accurate task of keeping track of the latest information and news, ensuring accuracyor crediting sources.

Big pictureGoogle as well as Microsoft, the two major players in the old-fashioned search industry are already weaving the use of generative AI into their engines, but with mixed outcomes.

  • Microsoft has announcedWednesday that it was preparing to try out a new version of Bing’s “generative search experience” that creates “a bespoke and dynamic response to a user’s query.”

OpenAI’s latest servicepromises to link to other sources, and let users refine their questions during a conversation through the chatbot.

  • SearchGPT was “designed to give you an answer,” OpenAI stated during its release.
  • “SearchGPT will quickly and directly respond to your questions with up-to-date information from the web while giving you clear links to relevant sources.”
  • “You’ll be able to ask follow-up questions, like you would in a conversation with a person, with the shared context building with each query.”

What it does:The company has a waiting listfor customers to apply for access to SearchGPT currently. It will be operated in a separate manner with other OpenAI services, such as ChatGPT.

  • OpenAI declared SearchGPT as an “temporary prototype” and said, “We plan to integrate the best of these features directly into ChatGPT in the future.”

In the text:OpenAI also said it is working with publishers in order to ensure that the tool will feature “prominently citing and linking to them.”

  • Content providers can now feature their content on SearchGPT without supplying it to be used in the training of for the firm’s AI models The company said.

Zoom Out:OpenAI and its rivals are betting on the fact that the majority of users would rather ask a question and have the answer than search for the results of a search.

Beware of your moneyMuch all the information available available on the internet today is hidden behind paywalls, or covered with advertisements and pop-ups.

  • Chatbot search results aren’t laden with any distractions, which makes them a pleasant experience — however this is because AI companies aren’t yet loaded up with “monetization” features to try to make money from their costly technology.

What’s next?Google has had an turbulent journeyrolling the AI-controlled search summaries and the entire industry will be monitoring closely to see if the OpenAI approach offers better results.
