Merrifield was unable to reproduce his success with the bat at the plate Kansas City and Toronto with the Phillies
In a surprising move that was a surprise, The Philadelphia Phillies released one of their most important free-agent signings prior to The All-Star break.
The team announced prior to Saturday’s game with Oakland Athletics that it released the player, who used to be an utility Whit Merrifield.
To replace his position, the fielder infielder as well as the outfielder Weston Wilson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
In the offseason, Merrifield was hired to sign a one-year deal worth 8 million with the Phillies. His contract was based on a $7 million in pay this season, and one million buyout or an option for a club worth $8 million for 2025.
Merrifield 35 who is an experienced player, gave the Phillies the opportunity to move as he played the entire 20-game leftfield, as in addition to 12 games at second base and eight at third base.
However, he just hit .199 and scored eight hits which were base extra and included three homers across 173 plate games.
Merrifield is a former Wilmington BlueRocks teammate.
Merrifield had been a top player with the Advanced Class A Wilmington Blue Rocks in 2011 and 2012. He hit 50 doubles and stealing 49 bases in 227 games as he moved into his way through the Kansas City system.
In the span over eight years during the seasons in Kansas City and Toronto, Merrifield scored .284 as well as being the leading player in the AL by taking three bases, and also hitting twice. Merrifield was a three-time All-Star.

The problem is that Merrifield did not manage to reach the same level of success with the Phillies that he wanted to bring the variety and depth of an organization that has World Series aspirations.
Wilson 29, who is a player in the infield and outfield, appeared in two games with the Phillies in June. This was following eight games in the previous season and Wilson hit .313 with a home run in his debut appearance in the big leagues.
He’s hit .315 which included 20 RBIs 10, 10 homers, and a 1.186 OPS in his time with the IronPigs. He was named the International League Player of the Week on the 1st of July with four hit homers, and having an 1.417 OPS during the course of six matches.
