The Dr. Evans, the first Black person to receive a doctorate in theology at Dallas Theological Seminary, founded the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in 1976 with his friend Rev. Crawford Loritts.
In the beginning there were only 10 members, and they held their services in Evans’s home along with his deceased wife, Lois. Since since then the church has grown to over 10,000 people and has over 100 ministry programs.
“The foundation of our ministry has always been our commitment to the Word of God as the absolute supreme standard of truth to which we are to conform our lives,” Evans stated in a statement that was released.
“When we do not meet the standard due to our iniquity, we are obligated to repent and rebuild the relationship we have with God. In the past I did not meet this standard. I am therefore obliged to follow the same biblical standards of repentance and restoration myself as I have done to others.”
Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship officials stated that they had to make a difficult decision following a lot of prayer and numerous sessions in with the Rev. Dr. Evans and the church elders.
“The elder board is committed to leading the church in line with the teachings of the scriptures,” the church declared.

“Dr. Evans and the elders agree that it’s the elders’ responsibility to hold any elder or pastor accountable if they don’t meet the high standards of the scripture, and to ensure that the church maintains its integrity.”
Evans said that going forward the pastor Bobby Gibson and the elders will be providing more details regarding their interim pastor and what the future plans are to take for the future of their church.
