Walmart has recalled apple juice that was sold across 25 states due to the increased arsenic levels.

Walmart has announced a recall of nearly 10,000 containers of Apple Juice that were sold in the stores throughout the U.S. The juice was found to contain dangerous levels of arsenic inorganic.

WASHINGTON (AP) (AP)The retailer Walmart has announced a recall of nearly 110,000 cases of juice from apples that is sold in stores all over the U.S. that were found to be contaminated with potentially harmful arsenic inorganic.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an urgent classification on Friday, following its initial announcement on Aug. 15. The new classification states that the affected product could briefly cause health problems but is not likely to cause permanent or severe health issues.

The recall is applicable to the 9,535 containers of Great Value brand apple juice that are sold across all 25 states as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Manufacturer based in Florida, Refresco Beverages US Inc. voluntaryly recalled the contaminated six-packs consisting of eight-ounce (227-gram) containers for juice following having found concentrations of the chemical contaminants were higher than the standards of the industry.

The spokesperson of Refresco has not yet responded to inquiries for comment on Sunday.

“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” Walmart spokesperson Molly Blakeman said in a statement. “We have removed this product from our impacted stores and are working with the supplier to investigate.”

Very minimal levels of organic arsenic and organic arsenic can be found in numerous food products according to the National Institutes of Health. Tests are routine since even slightly elevated levels of both forms can trigger symptoms like nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, numbness and cramping.

Arsenic from inorganic sources is more harmful to humans than the natural form of arsenic, the mineral and the health consequences that result from exposure are much more grave, according to FDA. The Environmental Protection Agency has declared inorganic arsenic as a cancer-causing agent, or a substance that can cause cancer.

Levels in the apple juice recalled bottles are so low that the FDA doesn’t expect that they could cause serious health effects.

The FDA has not released any the reports of illnesses linked with the recall of apple juice.
