If you see the term “Century” in a Miami-Dade development, it’s likely to be originated by members of the Pino family.

Sergio Pino, a well-known and successful developer from South Florida, was discovered deceased by suicide in his home during the FBI investigation into criminal charges in the conflict over his divorce with his wife of 32 years.

The allegations were founded on stalking and arson, as well as Tatiana Pino accusing her husband of poisoning her. They’re part of a federal investigation that has resulted in an arrest for four people but Sergio Pino was not yet charged with any of the crimes.

If you’ve ever seen the word “Century” in a Miami-Dade development, it’s likely that it was created within the Pino Family.

Sergio Pino was the founder of Century Homebuilders Group, LLC that was established in the year 1995. The website claims that it is the largest homebuilder, with a majority-Hispanic owned property in the nation. The company boasts that it was the owner, developer and/or operator of more than 50 condominiums and multi-family developments comprising more than 15,000 homes across Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

He was also co-founder and served as chairman and president of Century Partners Group, and began his first venture in business at 20 years old with Century Plumbing, a retail plumbing business that “quickly increased to become the largest Hispanic-owned plumbing business in the United States. 

Community participation

A passionate participant in and active member of the South Florida community, he was president of the formidable Latin Builders Association from 1989-1992 and was a full member or held leadership positions within the Builders Association of South Florida, Public Health Trust, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Mercy Foundation, Florida International University Board of Trustees and many others.

Sergio Pino was also appointed by Governor. Jeb Bush is to become a part of in the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Commission in the year 2000.

Philanthropy

Century’s website says it has been reported that Sergio Pino and his companies have raised money and increased awareness for La Liga Contra el Cancer and the American Cancer Society/Making a Difference against the Breast Cancer in Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation Department and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Miami Children’s Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital as well as Habitat for Humanity. The Pinos also contributed to the Florida International University’s Eugenio Pino & Family Global Entrepreneurship Center which is named in the memory of his father and his family.
